For generations, the Native Americans have known Mt Rainier as Tahoma (or Tacoma) which means Mother of all Waters or Frozen Water. In 1792, British surveyor George Vancouver named it Mt. Rainier in memory of his best friend who had never visited the area. Ironically Admiral Rainier also battled against the U.S. in the revolutionary war. It’s time to reverse this bizarre naming and restore the name given by the Indigenous People.

Mt Rainier/Tahoma is so massive that it’s hard to miss. You can find it reflected in the alpine lakes or rising over the mountains and valleys. If done clockwise, Naches Peak Trail…
